Introducing the 4 great teams that survived this
“Beyond Borders, Beyond Self” camp!
And not to forget, also an eye-opening trip for those who
Got to take flight or visit Vietnam for the FIRST time

And here was how the pokemon journey went …
DAY 1
Flight from Singapore to Ho Chi Minh City.
Educational trip to know more about Vietnam’s rich history before embarking on other exciting activities!
Visit to the War Remnant Museum and visit to historical landmarks such as General Post Office and Notre Dame Cathedral.
Check-in at Madagui Campsite for stopover.
DAY 2

Learn more about the plantation Vietnam is famous for: TEA PLANTATION!

Check-in at Tuyen Lam Campsite in Dalat!

Experience tent pitching, raft building, raft competition and new activity introduced by participants: DUNKING!

We even joined in the Vietnamese cultural dance at night!

What makes the experiences more unique was that, all these activities were done in 10+◦C aircon-like temperature!

DAY 3

After being greeted by the fog early in the morning, it’s time to stretch ourselves for a day of adventure!

First up, Razorback Trekking up the summit Pinhatt Mountain!

Next up, team building games and the challenging rope course (Zip Lining, Monkey Bridge, Leap of Faith)!

Our dinner was made sumptuous with the ever-so-popular fried egg!

After the meals, night walk was cancelled because of the rain. However, the camp spirit remained high!! Many had used the rainwater to shampoo their hair and we even opened our very own COR Club! The idea of the club was inspired by the group hugs to keep ourselves warm!

DAY 4

It’s time to bid goodbye to the scenic view and fantastic air-con temperature!

This also mean we’ll be having our last breakfast meal, our last group shot, our last ferry ride and our last look at Tuyen Lam campsite.
Back at Ho Chi Minh, it’s time to check in to Hoang Hai Long Dragon Hotel! It’s time to adjust back to the urban life and start our APPRECIATION NIGHT!
Kwee Fang’s Poi Performance with LED light and the volunteer’s musical with song sign and dance performance were splendid! And the HI’s pokemon performance was totally hilarious! Kudos!
The mood then turned slightly emotional when the HI and volunteers sharing sessions began. It was indeed a heart-warming session! Of course, a twist of event occurred and it ended off with what most of you had expected… TAUPOK!!

DAY 5

Time flies, especially when you are staying in the hotel! It was time to check-out and continue with our last 2 activities in COR’11!
First was the visit to the Hy Vong School for the Hearing Impaired and Intellectually Disabled. In the school, we got to learn the Vietnamese Sign Language from one of the teachers. It created an amazing scene of 4 languages (SEE sign language, English, Vietnamese, Vietnamese Sign Language) and 3 interpretations used to communicate ideas from the Vietnamese sign language teacher to the participants and vice versa. At the end, we presented the gifts prepared by the participants to the school’s principal in hope that the gifts will be beneficial to the students.
We then had our last COR’11 meal at LION Brewery and Restaurant followed by shopping at the famous Ben Thanh Market! Coffee, shirts, bags… … you name it, they have it!! This place poses another opportunity to go “Beyond Self”! It’s time for the participants to unleash their aunty/uncle’s side of them! Bargain or let your wallet down!!!
After 5 days of fun and going “Beyond Self”
EVENTUALLY

WE RETURNED!!

BUT WITH MORE FRIENDS,
COURAGE AND EXPERIENCES!
The COR’11 camp spirit would not have been the same without each and every one of you. Thanks for joining COR’11 and I do hope that these 5 days of camp had allowed you to forge more friendships, create new experiences and also challenge you to go “Beyond Self”!
And also special thanks to the 6 facilitators: Stephanie, Adrian, Kah Wai, Baosong, Yanting and Jasper who joined the volunteer’s team in May. Without your effort and help, I’m sure the camp would not have run as smoothly. And definitely, we’ll hear less crazy laughter!
Last but not least, a BIGGGGG thank you to the 26 special individuals in the COR’11 organizing committee. On 23 September 2010, which is also our 1st meeting, nobody knows exactly where COR’11 will be heading to. Taking flight was merely just a vision and no one was sure if we could be the first batch of COR to bring 50 over participants up on flight.  The Program Directors were frantically coming up with alternative programs if flight falls through and the Business Managers were stressed up by just the look at the canvassing targets! However, with all of your trust and believe in one another and also your relentless effort in participating in every single canvassing (even the occasional paid surveys which sometimes yield little profit), WE’VE MADE IT!
51 PARTICIPANTS UP ON FLIGHT,
TO A COUNTRY WHICH COR HAS NEVER VENTURED TO BEFORE!
YOU’VE MADE IT HAPPENED!
Though the journey may be tough at times, I hope this is a good learning journey as well as fulfilling experience for all of you. Take a short time off your stoning sessions to reflect on the things that happened in the passed 1 year. There are simply too many significant events to state: DCCL, BS1, BS2, VOC, COR’11 photoshoot, sentosa & botanic garden outings with the HI, Garung Guni, Kukup committee outing, Recce trip, Meet & Greet, Pre-Camp.. ..  Regardless of scale and level of significance of each event, I hope there are things you can take-away from each of them.  And after COR’11, our respective learning & volunteering journey continues… but in different paths this time. Do keep in contact. Stay tune for Jason’s thank you message =)
In all, Thank you everyone for the wonderful journey!!

Smiles and Retires,
Ming Wei

COR'11 Meet and Greet!

Hello everyone! Last Saturday, we had our annual Meet and Greet session at SADEAF!

For those who missed the Meet and Greet session, awww! You’ve missed the fun! Who told you not to come?! :P
But don’t worry, here's a juicy update of it~~~!!!

---At 10am sharp---

The doors to Meet & Greet session flew open, with excited COR committee members welcoming the people who's interested in COR!

Freddie – our BS1/BS2 instructor at the registration booth
For this year’s Meet and Greet, we had this special discount voucher for the 1st 15 people who came… it’s a $10 voucher that can be used for the camp fees!
Congrats to those who managed to get it! For those who did not, it's okay! COR will be so fun that even if you had to pay $100 more, it’s still worth it! :P

---10.30am, start of the meet-and-greet session---

To start off the session, we had the various portfolios introducing themselves!

Interesting sign names started coming out, like Xi Zi's kangaroo, QuanYi's rabbit, Alicia's pig! Oh, wait! Is COR breeding animals? (Alicia: don’t worry, we are very friendly animals, won’t bite!)

We also have KweeFang's fire dance "K" and "F"! Yes, KweeFang performs fire dance! Spectacular right! I would love to see her perform!

There's also Mervyn's "dive", and Luthfi's "climb"!
Yep, so as you may have guessed, Mervyn's a diver back in his National Service days, and Luthfi loves activities like mountain climbing!

There's a lot more interesting sign names from our committee members, but let's move on to other stuff, cause this might a day to finish! (Psst: come join COR if you really wanna meet these interesting people!)

 ---11am, presentation of itinerary---

Before the programmers introduced the COR’11 itinerary, the fantastic Meet & Greet video was played…

But... why was Jingjie behaving like this?
Watch this video to find out why!

After the awesome video by our very talented PnP Love Productions team, the programmers started sharing the long-awaited itinerary!

2011 is a SPECIAL year for COR! How so?!

That's because... ... this year, we're... FLYING!

Yes, don’t rub your eyes, what you’re reading is true! This year, we are going to fly to VIETNAM!

Besides that, we have so many other highlights for our camp: Accommodation, meals, transport, activities… and most importantly, the LOVELY COR members who will be there with you!

---11.45am, refreshment time!---
To wrap up the event, we had some yummy refreshments while we chatted with those who came down for the Meet and Greet… DONUTS!!!

The donut must be really delicious... See, Kweefang is eating it so happily!!
Justin making friends with our new friend, Wee Loon (:
How can there not be a group photo to remember this event of the year?

Annual Karang Guni Canvassing! Huat ah!

The beginning of the year is usually marked with crazy celebrations, thinking of New Year resolutions and…arghz….spring cleaning…It’s the time of the year when people will want to throw out all the old newspapers and used clothes stacked up in their houses somewhere. So on the 9th January 2010, for some residents of Bishan, Camp Out Reach and RSPHI Committee members are there to give them a hand.

Just a SMALL amount of what we have collected! Haha!

That’s right!!! It’s the annual joint Karang Guni conducted by COR and RSPHI as part of their individual canvassing efforts. In other words, the profits we earn from this Karang Guni will serve to subsidise a portion of the fees for the upcoming participants of COR’11!!!
Most importantly, this is another good opportunity to get to see new faces and to know more people. We were split into 8 groups, each comprising a mix of members from the various RSPHI centres and COR. For some of the more fortunate groups, we are privileged to have some of our HI friends to come down and help us with the Karang Guni. Yay! Extra Manpower!!!

Eirene (one of our COR’11 committee members) having fun!!!

Initially, we did door-to-door flyer distribution on the 2nd January to inform the residents of our upcoming Karang Guni session. Subsequently, on the 9th January 2010, we had the actual Karang Guni.

Most of the residents were generous to contribute to our cause and left us whatever they could. Even though there were some hiccups along the way, such as other unlicensed Karang Guni men going around to “snatch our business”, we still managed to collect quite a number of things.

Although we had to constantly climb up and down the HDB buildings and carry a lot of heavy items, we were very positive and enthusiastic and didn’t let our fatigue drag us down.

At the end of the day, when we all gathered under the void deck of a HDB flat for a short debrief, there were a lot of satisfaction and relief and everyone had smiles on their faces. We were all very excited that this year’s Karang Guni was much faster and successful than the previous year’s.

Our whole Karang Guni Team! Good job everyone!!!
A very good job done by all the participants and not to mention the Business Managers, who have spent so much effort coordinating and organising this event such that it ran so smoothly. Kudos to everyone!!!

Jason, with a big smile on his face, very happy with our results! Plus Wen Jie (who looks very tired) but terping for all of us!

We ended off this fruitful day by having dinner at Manhattan Fish House in Junction 8!!!
But if you think money was the only thing we got from this event, you are wrong!!!
Everyone forged new friendships and learned more about the members from other portfolios within Welfare Services Club and some groups even got together one week later to have dinner outings! We may have only seen each other and worked with each other for 2 days but the experiences and fun time that we had bonded all of us even more.
So do watch out for future events and come join us!!!

Rewarding ourselves at the end of a tiring and fruitful day
-From CGLs

Guess what time it is? It’s COR outing time!!!

Yay! On the 8th January 2010, COR had a picnic/games day over at the Botanic Gardens. (When was the last time that we even set foot in the Botanic Gardens? Haha)

We first gathered at Orchard MRT station, all of us carrying the food that we are contributing to this Potluck style picnic!!!

Enjoying the food that we brought later in the day, after the Phoro Hunt game. (Why is there CNY Goodies in the middle?!)
Even though the weather looked dangerously cloudy and slightly rainy in the morning, it all cleared up just in time for us as we travelled together to the Botanic Gardens by bus behind ION.
When we arrived, De Jun and Eileen (2 of our CGLs) gathered us to explain the game that we were going to play. It’s called “Photo-Hunt” and basically, it took us around to different landmarks within some parts of the Botanic Gardens and we were expected to find these places and take funny photos as a group there!!!

De Jun and Eileen explaining the rules of the game!!!
And so, with 2 teams competing to finish first, we started the game.
Along the way, the participants tried putting their navigation skills to the test and we searched high and low for the places where we were supposed to take photos. All the while, we were also enjoying each others’ companies and reminiscing the old days when we were in Botanic Gardens. Most people mentioned that the last time they were here was when they were little children so it was rather refreshing to see everything again, so familiar yet so distant…

One of the groups doing a ‘shocked’ expression at Swan Lake. “NO Aloysius, you CANNOT swim in there!!!”

We were supposed to do a combination of happy, angry, sad and excited/ecstatic expressions in front of the National Orchid Garden.
We visited various places, such as the plot of Vanda Miss Joaquim (Our National flower), the Swan Lake, the front of National Orchid Garden, a cave near the Ginger Garden and a pavilion within the Rainforest area.
At the end of the day, we all gathered back at the place we started to enjoy the food that we brought and to play games.

“Eileen, why are you looking at Mang Yew like that?! Don’t be angry just because he took the Frisbee!”

Jason and Jack trying to catch the ball Joey threw!!

A classic picture of Jenson (COR’11 Logistics) try to catch the Frisbee/ball. Haha!
After a while, we settled down and we sat down by the benches near the shelter and we continued the day with card games! Joey is always ever ready with her Saboteur cards!!! Haha!

Jingru’s Monopoly Deal Cards also very popular!!!

“Isaac, are you are real miner or are you a Saboteur???”
Time flies and fun times pass quickly. Before long, we were done with the afternoon and trying to get out before it started to rain!!! It had been a really enjoyable day and some of us decided to go to Far East Plaza to have dinner so we finally left Botanic Gardens!!!

Not everyone managed to make it but we still had a great time!
We apologise for picking a date where many people couldn’t make it for the outing but now that you guys have seen the fun that we had, remind yourself that you MUST MUST come to our next COR outing okay, everybody?!
