On 13th June 2015, with sleepy eyes and heavy bags, both COR members and HI participants reported to Changi Airport Terminal 1 Row 2 early in the morning, to catch our flight to Vietnam! Though it is too early for us to meet, we are all definitely anticipating our trip with big smiles! If I am not wrong, Wan Ling is last person to reach. TSK TSK HAHA! =D As the CGLs rushed about to make sure everyone was present, the rest of us were buzzing with excitement (despite it being 5am), chatting with our buddies, groupmates and saying our goodbyes to family members.
Upon reaching Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Vietnam,
we are warmly welcomed by members of the Education & Community Organization
(ECO) Vietnam Group (EVG). After a brief general introduction and getting to know each
other, our entire group needed 2 buses to start a 5 hour journey to Phong Thanh village.

During our 5 hour journey, the first thing we did was to
have our breakfast in the bus. The breakfast was provided by EVG group and it
was delicious as this was our first breakfast of our trip in Vietnam. Everyone
was very happy and enjoying the companionship of our new Vietnamese friends. In
bus, some of us are sleeping soundly and some are chatting, laughing and joking
together with our Vietnamese friends.
Awesome Breakfast called “Bánh mì kẹp”
Time passed quickly as all of us either slept or chatted, and we had a stopover for our first proper meal (lunch) in Vietnam -- the main course being Steamboat-style Fish accompanied with a hearty drizzle of Vietnamese fish sauce and rice. The lunch was special to all of us as we
cannot find these type of food in Singapore.

After lunch, we continued our journey and at about 3 pm we finally
arrived in Phong Thanh Village Community Hall.
We had a very interesting Welcome Ceremony in the main Community Hall. Our very own chairperson, Pei Yu and the town Mayor, the vice-president of EVG, Duyen gave a speech to welcome each other as well as
the objectives of having Singapore Camp Outreach coming to Vietnam.
After the ceremony the first thing that we did in Phong
Thanh village was to clean up the hall, kitchen, wash up the toilets and set up all
the mosquito nets and finally have the sleeping mats to be put in place in the
rooms. This was to ensure that our living quarters was cosy and comfortable enough for the 6 days and 5 nights we would be spending there.

After a short rest, it was dinner time already. The dinner was prepared by a lovely chef auntie, who will be cooking for us throughout our stay. Though it was a simple dinner but was quite enjoyable when taken together with our Vietnamese friends.
After dinner, we had our briefing for tomorrow’s activities and then we go to bed before lights out.
Stay tuned to our adventures tomorrow, when the first day of Construction and Teaching commences at the Phong Thanh school! =D
Love,
PnP Team
