Wei Yuan was the Logistics Officer from the last COR commitee and that is where he learned a lot about the deaf culture. COR'08 was also the highlight of his first year in NTU thus he decided to join again this time to contribute to another exciting adventure. He is often known to be reserved and slow, but he can be friendly and nice once you get to know him. He hopes COR will continue to be a place where HIs and volunteers can learn more about friendship and hardship. He also likes to be involved in sports like tennis and badminton but is never good at anything... at least he tried.
Interview with Wei Yuan
1. Why do you join the COR committee for the 2nd time?
Last year was a great experience for me, interacting for the first time with the hearing impaired, and it taught me a lot of things. It was also filled with fun and lots of entertainment besides the strenuous planning. Thus, I joined again this time and hope to be part of the team that organizes something meaningful and enriching to the HIs.
2. What is your new role different from last year when you are the logistics officer?
Compared to last year, I definitely feel I am more involved in the planning process. As a financial controller, I will have to be more conscientious and pay more attention to the financial situation of the committee. I also hope to be more active this time round.
3. What are the challenges?
For now, it has been rather smooth sailing on my part. However, I feel that as a whole committee, we have obstacles to clear, like having to work harder for the canvassing activities and finding a programme and place that is both within our budget and enriching for our beneficiaries and participants. I believe we will be able to sail through these barriers.
4. What do you hope participants can gain?
Most importantly, I definitely hope everyone will be able to enjoy the experience and have l lots of fun. Naturally, some skills that I hope they will take away is team spirit, self- motivation and endurance (from the hike).
